Today’s custom homes demand greater attention to detail, thus our highly evolved technical department, combined with leading industry software assures our builders that our ‘tech-centric’ system brings a best-in-class structural envelope.

Respecting the vision of the architect, we model every house so that our 3D work can lay directly over the architects 2D work, ensuring for all stakeholders that the home, as envisioned, is the star of the show.

If It’s Not A System, It’s Not A Solution

- NA Structures

It  isn’t just a slogan, but the embodiment of what the team at NA Structures lives by. This, combined with the coordination and collaboration of all stakeholders to a build, including MEP’s, HVAC and windows/door suppliers, ensures that every detail of the build, can be understood and effective solutions implemented.

Our Services

Your custom home project starts its life at our Quebec based 30,000 square foot facility. Our facility encompasses our in-house technical services, administration, steel shop and wood production operation. The production floor is the practical expression of the work the technical teams do before the first piece of wood or steel is produced.

NA Structures values and respects the enormous creative contribution architects bring to a building project. Our advanced BIM work, 3D modeling and the use of sophisticated software solutions, allows us to reduce and eliminate conflicts and to improve relationships amongst stakeholders on every project.

Our “fixed cost” model also offers the builder with the opportunity to ensure profitability while also reducing or eliminating any on-site surprises and our technical support provides unparalleled guidance and oversight for our builders and their in-field teams.

Project Coordination

Our coordination service elevates the relationship between the trades, builder and architect.
To achieve this, we work diligently with stakeholders, trades to bring advanced 3D modeling to each project.

Resolving Conflicts with 3D Modelling

Our process starts by translating 2D architectural drawings into 3D models using sophisticated BIM software.

Shop Drawings

The technical team at NA Structures will supply all shop drawings for our manufactured components. We start by analyzing the architectural drawings for a project as compared to the engineered drawings in order to identify any discrepancies.

Layouts

Our team builds your structure on a 3D model in order to complete the floor and roof layouts.
It is at this juncture in our process that we focus on special details ie. recessed light placement, elevator details, interior doors, and rough openings in order to complete the layouts.

Rough Openings

The NA Structures team will coordinate the rough openings in the architectural plans with the measurements we are given for the windows and doors. Our team starts by building a 3D model to identify any related interference or issues.

Foundation Details

From the project plans- both architectural and engineered drawings, we draft a 3D model of the foundation to confirm that no discrepancies exist. If discrepancies are detected, our technical team works to rectify the situation.

Resolving Conflicts with 3D Modelling

NA Structures uses 3D modelling to detect possible interference which would otherwise be found during site construction.

Here are some examples of the type of issue we routinely find after converting 2D plans into 3D.

Our team found that the bolts and plates as drawn would result in both sticking out of the ceiling. To rectify this, we were able to modify the height of the columns before the site build.

Our team found that an allowance had not been made for a required HSS column between windows. The order was for one large window, not two. When our team caught the error in a 3D model, the HSS beam was accounted for and the window order was amended.

Our technical team found a conflict in the plans as drawn, between the wall mount for the toilet and the studs. The solution required a change in framing around the toilet to accommodate and support both the toilet and the wall.

Shop Drawings

The technical team at NA Structures will supply all shop drawings for our manufactured components.

We start by analyzing the architectural drawings for a project as compared to the engineered drawings in order to identify any discrepancies.

We use 3D models to confirm that everything works together ie. the wood and the structural steel. This detail along with solutions to any issues we identify, is coordinated with our client and includes the architect of record and the project engineer.

Layouts

Our team builds your structure on a 3D model and then we generate wall, floor, roof and steel layouts.

It is at this juncture in our process that we focus on special details ie. recessed light placement, elevator details, interior doors, and rough openings in order to complete the layouts. This is an integral part of our process to mitigate risk of errors occurring during the site build and to ensure precision in the finished structure.

Our team also completes nailing schedules here to coordinate with load details in the engineered plans.

Foundation Details

From the project plans- both architectural and engineered drawings, we draft a 3D model of the foundation to confirm that no discrepancies exist. If discrepancies are detected, our technical team works to rectify the situation. The client/architect of record are brought into the conversation with a copy of our 3D models and a summary of our findings.

Our client will supply an as-built survey of their foundation, so our team can then work to identify the optimal positioning of the sill plates. Foundation discrepancies often exist as built vs plans, so the NA Structures process is designed to address this.
